Blenheim Palace
Birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill and a World Heritage site since 1987, Blenheim Palace at Woodcote in Oxfordshire became the film set for scenes from JK Rowling’s Harry Potter and The Young Victoria. Helen James Productions produced entertaining video features on both films highlighting how the palace built at the turn of the 18th Century was adapted for these movies. It’s also just been the location for Jack Black’s new film Gulliver’s Travels.
The Palace is privately owned and home to the 11th Duke and Duchess of Marlborough. In 2009 the venue won a silver award in the South East ‘Enjoy England Awards for Excellence’, the tourism equivalent of the Oscars.
Currently the Blenheim Dam which leads to the cascade and Blenheim Lake, designed by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown, is undergoing essential repairs and strengthening works.
