Groombridge Place and Gardens

Groombridge Place and Gardens at Tunbridge Wells in Kent was used as the Bennett's home, Longborn, in the film Pride and Prejudice which starred Hollywood actor, Keira Knightley.   This location, together with the National Trust venue Basildon Park in Berkshire which portrayed Netherfield Hall, were highlighted in a special feature on the film by Helen James Productions and was broadcast on regional TV news programmes.

Both venues recognise the interest that such big productions attract.  Groombridge Place now has museum with a collection of photos taken during filming and an exhibition of period costume and Basildon Park also has an exhibition showing how its rooms were transformed for filming the Netherfield Ball.  The Berkshire venue also saw a 70% rise in visitors in the year following the film’s release.
