Penshurst Place

When 'The Other Boleyn Girl' starring Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman plumped for filming locations in Kent, Helen James Productions created a special series of entertainment features broadcast on local news.

True to the county’s historic connections with Henry VIII and the Tudors, filming began at Knole House at Sevenoaks, moved to Penshurst Place at Tonbridge and used English Heritage Dover Castle to bring the Tudor era to life.

In similar style the Kent Film Office saw an opportunity to turn movie tourism in to an art form; they teamed up with Universal, National Trust, English Heritage and the Kent Tourism Alliance to release a movie map to promote the film locations to the county’s visitors, aswell as the Boleyn family home, Hever Castle.

They estimate it boosted the local economy by one million pounds.
