The Boat that Rocked

The Boat that Rocked is a British comedy classic filmed by Working Title Productions for Universal Pictures at Pinewood Studios using its superb water stage, at Squerrye’s Court in Kent, on Brighton beach, and also on location at sea – though not quite in the North Sea where Richard Curtis’s film about a fictitious pirate radio station is set.

The cast of Rhys Ifans, Kenneth Branagh, Bill Nighy and Nick Frost all talked to Helen James Productions about the movie, how they were all made to live together on boat by Curtis, also how they actually only had to endure the relatively gentle waters off Portland in Dorset for the filming.

Rhys plays the returning king of the discs, DJ Gavin, with Bill Nighy, Nick Frost, and Philip Seymour Hoffman also playing parts in the ramshackle cast of disc jockeys broadcasting some great music from the 1960s.  Kenneth Branagh told Helen James Productions he rather enjoyed playing the villain – a government minister whose mission it is to close the pirate radio station down.
