Sir Norman Wisdom

Helen James Productions had the great privilege to talk to Sir Norman Wisdom in 2006 at his son’s home in Sussex.  The British actor’s rise to stardom was quick once he decided on a career in entertainment, having developed his comedic talent in the British Army with funny walks and a comedy boxing routine.

His antics as Norman Pitkin attracted the admiration of Laurel and Hardy and Charlie Chaplin who said Norman was his favourite clown.  It is understood his phenomenal success in films kept Pinewood Studios financially afloat at the time.  He’s also a comedy icon in Albania whose films were the only western ones allowed to be shown during the dictatorship of Enver Hoxha.

Helen James Productions talked to him about his life, his family, his passions and his knighthood.  It’s a touching interview with a much loved British star who called himself a “lucky little devil” and, even though he was in his nineties, tried to teach Helen how to tap dance in his son’s kitchen!
